Captain James Wilson was born at Oakville on March 12, 1859, and was educated in the public schools of that town. He began his sailing career out of Parry Sound in 1878 under Captain Murray McGregor. Other vessels which he sailed in were, in 1880 and 1881 the steambarge Enterprise with Captain George Morden, in 1882 the steamship Lothair under Captain Symes, in 1883 the steamer Atlantic with Captain P. M. Campbell, in 1884, 1885, and 1886 in the steamer Pacific, and during the seasons of 1887, 1888 and 1889 he was chief mate in the steamers Pacific and Atlantic, belonging to the Great Northern Transit Company. Throughout the seasons of 1890, 1891, 1892, 1893 and 1894 he was master of the steamer Atlantic. He has been with the G.N.T. Co. continuously since 1882; since 1890 as master.
