Capt. W. Board, of Bala and Port Carling is a well-known mariner. He was born in 1853 in Devonshire, near Torquay, England, and was educated at Newton Abbot, Devon. His uncle was mate on a vessel running between England and Australia.Capt. Board began sailing on the steamer Muskoka for the Muskoka Navigation Co on Muskoka Lakes in 1882. He has been a master for ten years and has sailed the steamers Muskoka,Nipissing,Oriole,Onaganoh,* and Mink. Capt. Board is a life-saver, having rescued several drowning men. Besides his other accomplishments, Capt. Board is a prominent member of the Presbyterian Church and is high in the Masonic and Maccabee fraternities. He is a Liberal in politics and was much elated at the election of Dr. Bridgland in his district at the recent elections. He was married some years ago to Miss Helen Torrance, and has one son, Henry T. Board, and two daughters, Mabel and Edna. [* Read Onagonah, built at Kingston in 1877 by Robert Davis.
