Capt. P. Walsh

Capt. P. Walsh, chief officer on the steamer Modjeska of the Hamilton Steamboat Company's line, under Commodore Crawford, was born in Oakville, Ontario, on June 1, 1857, his father being a prominent hotelkeeper of that place. Capt. Walsh was educated in the City of Toronto in the Separate Schools and in De la Salle Institute. For the first years of his life Capt. Walsh was in the hotel business with his father at Oakville. His father removed to Waterford, a small town near to the City of St. Thomas, Ontario, and Capt. Walsh went into business for himself, starting a hotel at Burlington when he was about twenty years of age. From Burlington he moved to Hamilton and conducted an hotel business there from the year 1882 until the year 1886. Tiring of the hotel business, Capt. Walsh secured a position as timekeeper on the Toronto Street Railway, and that occupation he held for one year, finally in 1887 going into the employ of the Hamilton Steamboat Company, where he has remained, gradually working up to his present office.

Capt. Walsh married Miss Commerford in Hamilton in the year 1877. Three daughters have been born to the captain and Mrs. Walsh - Eva,Eulalla and Maggie.
