In 1984, the Misener fleet ran a special contest to help celebrate the 25th anniversary of the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway. There were a number of prizes, including a major lake trip on one of the company's vessels, plus shorter trips in the Welland Canal. From all reports, the contest was incredibly successful. Member David Bull, who is Editor of Misener Shipping's "Spearpole", advises that the company will again be running the contest during the summer of 1985, and that entry forms will be available at Lock Three on the canal, and at certain other locations in the St. Catharines area. There was no charge for contest entry in 1984, but it is possible that there may be a very nominal charge in 1985, with the proceeds being directed to the work of the Welland Canals Foundation, which specializes in the history of the old canals and would like to see their remains preserved. For full details concerning the contest, please watch at the canal visitors' centre which is located in the Lock Three viewing area.
