It is not unusual for us to receive enquiries as to the activities of the venerable Mississippi River steam-powered sternwheel passenger vessel DELTA QUEEN. Suffice it to say that the old girl is still operating, that she is in excellent condition, and that her cruises are immensely popular (although few Canadians find their way aboard). She will wind up her 1983 schedule in December, will be laid up for two months for her annual refit, and will begin her 1984 schedule in February. Her 1984 activities will centre around the Louisiana World Exposition which will be held at New Orleans from May to December. For those who might be interested in a trip on DELTA QUEEN in 1984, we present herewith a brief resume of her upcoming schedule. Further details may be obtained from your travel agent or from the Delta Queen Steamboat Company, 511 Main Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45202, U.S.A. Orleans New Orleans 452 We heartily recommend a trip aboard DELTA QUEEN for anyone who wishes to relive the days of overnight steamboat travel, to observe the interesting barge traffic on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, to visit river ports and towns that tourists might not otherwise see, or simply to relax aboard the boat and watch the world slip very slowly past. And for those who might think that river travel does not contain interesting navigational features, we would mention that there are twenty locks and dams on the Ohio River between Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Cairo, Illinois, while there are 27 on the Upper Mississippi River between St. Paul, Minnesota, and St. Louis, Missouri .
